Below is the seed for the upcoming Pragmatic Spirituality Discussion
Aug. 8, 2019, 7-8:15pm, (reservation at Pragmatic Spirituality required)
“Our Lives are Frittered Away by Details…..Simplify. Simplify”
- Henry David Thoreau
Thoreau’s quote can elicit a sense of urgency. You may hear a reminder of our mortality or simply a call to refocus and clear the way for what matters.
For this discussion, the seed is both Thoreau’s quote and some questions to think about in the coming days. You might write down your answers if you’d like. As always, there will be no expectation to share answers, though you’re welcome to if you’d like.
Take about one minute for each of the next three questions to write without inhibition. There’s no need to be complete. Just capture your first reactions.
“The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” Hans Hofmann (1530 German painter and draftsman)
Clearing our spaces and grappling with our material items allows our brain/mind to repeatedly consider what matters and what doesn't. This is also a great way to practice listening to our inner voice. Our physical letting go is a powerful way to learn to psychologically and spiritually let go. This isn’t about being neat or about being a minimalist. This is all about finding clarity.
We look forward to being with those who will be coming,
Courtney & Marty
